The Power of Jude
Achieving the Right Frame of Mind

Read a Selection from Section 1:

Dr. Robert Spears, M.D., former Director of Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, contracted a strange and crippling disease that not only brought him to the threshold of death but left his body in a weakened and far less than perfect condition.

He says that what he has learned of himself, his society and his God, because of his incurable disease, has been so beneficial and so powerful that he would not exchange a healthy body for what he has gained.

Dr. Spears points out that it is from adversity that we can learn much about life and about ourselves. When things are going well, when we're healthy, when lack of money is no hindrance to our wishes, when the world is our oyster, we began to believe we did it, we caused it, we are, almost, omnipotent.

At times it's as though we need to be shaken up, so to speak, to become involved in the search for life's meaning; to know why we are here; what our purpose in life is; what road we should travel before we know what to ask from Jude. We don't want to ask for the wrong thing lest we end up as confused or unhappy as we were before we solicited his help, for we can be certain that what we ask for, we will receive.

As Bob Spears says, you may want to look upon the adversity you are suffering as an opportunity to re-evaluate the course you've been on, then either re-certify that you are on life's proper course or, perhaps, identify that which needs to be changed and bend the road of life accordingly. To determine where you've been and where you're going requires an environment for reflection and introspection; thinking and evaluating; becoming in touch with one's inner self, and one's God, through prayer.

Prayer introduces us to the Great Companion who meets our human need with His divine response. The man who has learned to pray is no longer alone in the Universe. He is living in his Father's house.
-Williams Adams Brown

As you reflect, introspect, pray and meditate, you may or may not be led to St. Jude. Bob Spears achieved what he achieved without St. Jude. The major point of this little book is that it matters not how you get there. The important thing is to get there. We simply believe that calling upon St. Jude is faster, easier, more reliable, more effective.

Much cause of our unhappiness is being unduly influenced by outside forces. I can look to the right and see people who are perceived as better off than I. They have a bigger house, bigger car, better health. Or, I can look to the left and find somebody worse off than I. No house at all, no car, bad health. There is always somebody better off. There is always somebody worse off. Outside forces create discontent or gratitude depending upon whether I look to the right or to the left. If I am to find happiness, it comes from the inside, not the outside.
